Jahangir Alam has completed one year as Vice-Chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), achieving significant progress in academics, infrastructure and student welfare since assuming office on 19 September 2024.In his first year, the VC inaugurated a second administrative building and staff quarters “Bondhon,” completed the Arts Faculty building, renovated the Nazrul sculpture, modernized the central mosque, and launched a new university website. Construction of dormitories, institute buildings, playgrounds and a medical center is underway, while uninterrupted power supply on campus has been ensured with PDB’s support.Academically, JKKNIU successfully hosted the GST admission test and introduced academic calendars to strengthen discipline. The third research fair was held with participation from all departments, alongside new MoUs with Akij Resources and Lincoln University College, Malaysia.Cultural and social events, including Nazrul Jayanti, Rabindra Jayanti, Bangla New Year, and National Mourning Day, were observed. The VC also paid tribute to martyred student Intisharul Haque on the first anniversary of the July-August uprising.Student welfare initiatives included financial aid for sick and injured students, a wheelchair for a differently-abled student, and steps toward holding the student union election. Sports activities such as inter-department tournaments were organized, while scholarships and research funding were introduced in Nazrul Studies.Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Jahangir Alam said, “With everyone’s cooperation, we are moving the university forward. Despite budget constraints, we aim to build JKKNIU as an international standard institution.”
