Excitement is building among expat voters from Lakshmipur ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. For the first time, citizens living abroad will be able to cast their votes through postal ballots in four parliamentary constituencies, with nearly 33,000 expat voters already applying to participate.Expats are eager to exercise their democratic rights and vote for their preferred candidates from abroad. Voters have welcomed the government’s initiative, which allows them to take part in shaping the country’s political future. The registration and application process was completed using the mobile app “Postal Vote BD.”Approximately 150,000 voters from Lakshmipur are currently residing in countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Despite being far from home, they are enthusiastic about taking part in the election. Many hope this election will be free from violence and conducted in a fair and impartial manner.Expats such as Shariful Islam from Dubai, Abul Hashem from Saudi Arabia, and Tofayel Ahmed from Singapore expressed excitement in phone interviews. Tofayel Ahmed said, “We hope this election will be peaceful, without riots or disturbances. Being able to vote for the first time is a great feeling. This also encourages candidates to pay attention to expat voters. We want a corruption-free Bangladesh.”Voters noted that life abroad comes with many challenges. They intend to support candidates who address expat issues and fulfill their promises.Local residents of Lakshmipur also praised the election commission’s initiative, noting that expat votes could influence the outcome of the election.District Election Officer Md. Abdur Rashid confirmed that expat voters in Lakshmipur have completed registration and application procedures via the Postal Vote BD app, with nearly 33,000 applications received. Excitement among expat voters is running high ahead of the election, and Lakshmipur ranks 10th nationwide in terms of registration activity.
Candidates in Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency acknowledged the importance of expat votes. Jamaat candidate Dr. Rezaul Karim expressed hope that expat votes would favor the Jatiya Party, while BNP candidate Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie noted that over 10,000 expat voters have applied and their votes are expected to support the BNP, citing the party’s longstanding support for expat communities.
