The government upgraded Mymensingh to a division in 2015.It has been decided to form two new upazilas by splitting Muradnagar in Comilla and Fatikchhari in Chittagong. The Cabinet Division has finalized a draft proposal to form a new upazila called 'Bangra Upazila' from 10 unions of Bangra Thana in Muradnagar Upazila and 'Fatikkhari Uttar' from Fatikchhari. Currently, there are a total of 22 unions under Muradnagar Upazila. It is worth noting that in the NICAR meeting held on November 27, 2022, a proposal to establish 'Padma Division' with some districts of Greater Faridpur and 'Meghna Division' with Comilla and surrounding districts was raised, but final approval was not received.According to Cabinet Division sources, the proposal to establish the division was postponed due to fears of economic crisis. Even in the current situation, discussions and criticisms are ongoing about the need for a new department.
