Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, has left Dhaka for Singapore to receive advanced medical treatment.
On Sunday morning (September 22), he departed from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Singapore.
Party spokesperson Faruk Hasan stated that Nurul Haque Nur had initially wished to continue his treatment in Bangladesh, placing trust in the country’s healthcare system. However, the medical board advised that advanced treatment abroad was necessary for his recovery.
Hasan further informed that Nur will undergo treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, which may take around four to six weeks. He also expressed concern, saying the government cannot avoid responsibility for the attack on Nur, and criticized the authorities for not taking any action in this regard.
The incident occurred on the night of August 29 in the capital’s Bijoynagar area, when clashes broke out between activists of the Jatiya Party (JAPA) and Gono Odhikar Parishad. Law enforcement intervened with baton charges to control the situation, leaving at least 50 people injured, including Nurul Haque Nur and the party’s General Secretary Rashed Khan.
Nur was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital in critical condition. Later, on doctors’ advice, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11 p.m. the same night. After receiving 18 days of treatment there, he was discharged and returned home last week.
