Police have recovered the hanging bodies of a mother and her daughter from two separate rooms of the same residence in Chandina, Cumilla. This sensational incident took place on Sunday (March 1) afternoon in Sakoj village under Dollai Nawabpur Union of the upazila. It is initially suspected that the mother, Farhana Akter (33), committed suicide by hanging herself after strangling her seven-year-old daughter, Fasiha, to death. Farhana was the wife of Mujahidul Islam Majumdar of that village.
According to local and police sources, Farhana Akter was a mother of three. Her son lives in Dhaka with his father, and her eldest daughter stays at a local madrasa hostel for her studies. Farhana used to live in the village home with her youngest daughter and mother-in-law, Kadorbanu. On the day of the incident, the mother-in-law went out in the morning for religious work. Upon returning at noon, she found all the doors and windows of the house locked from the inside. Receiving no response after repeated calling, she entered the house with the help of neighbors by breaking a window, only to find the hanging bodies of the mother and daughter.
On receiving the news, Chandina police reached the spot and recovered the two bodies. Police Inspector Mizanur Rahman stated that the bodies of the mother and daughter were found hanging in two different rooms. Authorities are investigating whether there are any other underlying reasons behind the incident. Jabedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station, mentioned that the police are preparing to send the bodies for autopsy. The exact cause of death can be confirmed once the autopsy report is available and the investigation is complete.
