The hearing of appeals regarding the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliament elections has entered its sixth day at the Election Commission.

The hearing began today, Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka. According to the commission’s schedule, appeals numbered 381 to 480 will be heard today. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin is presiding over the full commission, which will take a one-hour break at noon and continue the session until 5:00 p.m.

On the fifth day of hearings, Wednesday, out of 100 appeals, 73 were approved, 17 rejected, and 10 left pending. Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, stated that a total of 380 appeals were heard over the first five days (Saturday to Wednesday). Of these, 277 were approved, 81 rejected or canceled, and 23 remained pending for various reasons.

According to the commission’s schedule, tomorrow, January 16, appeals numbered 481 to 510, along with pending cases, will be heard from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On January 17, appeals 511 to 610 will be heard, and on January 18, the final day, appeals 611 to 645 along with the remaining pending cases will be concluded.

A total of 645 appeals have been filed with the commission challenging the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers in this election. The commission reported that on January 4, the last day of scrutiny, returning officers or assistant returning officers in 300 constituencies examined 2,568 nomination papers, approving 1,842 and rejecting 723.

Candidates and their legal representatives are participating in the hearings to challenge the decisions on their nomination papers. The commission has assured that all appeals will be carefully reviewed and decisions will be made impartially.
