The death toll from a fire in a housing complex in Hong Kong has risen to 94, the British media outlet BBC reported on Friday (November 28).
279 people in the apartments are still missing. Many are believed to be trapped inside.
Although the fire was completely brought under control after 24 hours, black smoke is still coming out of the buildings. Rescue efforts are not being carried out due to high temperatures and partial collapse inside.
Firefighters have so far managed to reach half the height of the building. The fire was even higher.
The fire broke out at noon local time on Wednesday (November 26) in the housing complex called Wang Fook Court in Tai Po District. More than 1,200 firefighter personnel were deployed to the scene.
Meanwhile, three people have been arrested for dereliction of duty in the incident. However, it is not yet known where or why the fire started.
It is worth noting that this is the worst fire incident in Hong Kong's six-decade history.
