Government to assist in rehabilitation of Karail slum fire victims

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over the horrific fire that has gutted many houses and left many families destitute in the capital's Korail slum in Mohakhali.

In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (November 25) night, the Chief Advisor wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the fire and expressed his sincere condolences to the affected families. Dr. Yunus said, "The suffering of the families who have been left homeless in the Korail slum fire is a pain for all of us. The government will ensure all necessary assistance in the rehabilitation of the affected." He further said, "The relevant authorities have been instructed to immediately intensify rescue and relief activities. In addition, instructions have been given to investigate the cause of the fire and take effective measures to prevent such accidents in the future." On that day, the fire broke out in the Korail slum after 5:15 pm. Within some time, the fire spread in all directions. The fire was brought under control after 10:30 pm with the efforts of 19 units of the fire service. The fire service said that more than a hundred houses in the slum were completely burnt to ashes as the fire took a terrible shape.
