Voting suspended in constituencies where rigging was alleged: CEC

Voting suspended in constituencies where rigging was alleged: CEC

If there is any allegation of rigging or chaos in any polling station of an election constituency, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the polling for that constituency will be suspended.

He said this in a dialogue with civil society representatives at the Election Building on Sunday (September 28). Along with this, the CEC also commented that the dialogue organized around the election is not just a formality, but this dialogue will play an important role in organizing a fair election.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that since assuming office, the Election Commission has started a huge work campaign. The voter list has been updated including the RPO amendment. At that time, although postal ballots were mentioned in the law, it was not used, the CEC said that the current commission is working on this issue.

He also said that those involved in the election could not vote in the past. However, this time, those involved in the election will also be able to vote. He also said that the number of such people is about one million.

On the other hand, former caretaker government advisor Rasheda K. Chowdhury said that fulfilling the people's expectations is the EC's challenge.

It is worth noting that in this action plan announced by the EC, a dialogue is being held with representatives of registered political parties, university teachers, representatives of civil society and women's society, media editors and journalists, representatives of observation organizations, election experts and injured July fighters. The concerned parties hope that this dialogue can be completed within one to one and a half months.
