Eggs were thrown at the wall and gate of the house of Awami League Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Zahid Hasan, who was accused of throwing eggs at National Citizens Party (NCP) member secretary Akhtar Hossain in New York, USA.
The incident took place on Tuesday (September 23) evening in the Telipara area of Chamta Union in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur.
According to local and police sources, NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara and several politicians went to New York, USA on Monday (September 22) as an entourage of the interim government's chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. They were leaving Terminal 4 after arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport in the United States. At that time, Awami League leaders and activists threw eggs at Akhtar Hossain and abused Tasnim Zara.
In this incident, when the US Awami League's Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Zahid Hasan was accused of being involved in the incident, on Tuesday evening around 7 pm, leaders, activists and local students and the public led by District NCP Coordinator Advocate Ruhul Amin took out a protest procession and threw eggs at the main gate and wall of Zahid Hasan's house in the Telipara area of Chamta Union, Naria Upazila, Shariatpur.
Confirming the matter, Imran Al Nazir, former convener of the district's anti-discrimination student movement, said that Zahid Hasan was the one who threw eggs at the heroes of Bangladesh who were accompanying Akhtar Hossain and Dr. Muhammad Yunus in the United States. Therefore, as a symbol of that anger, the students and the public threw eggs at the main gate of his country house.
However, regarding the egg throwing, District NCP Joint Coordinator Sabuj Talukder said, "We do not know exactly who threw eggs at Zahid Hasan's country house. We will protest on the streets in the form of processions and slogans." But the district NCP has no intention of attacking anyone's house.
District NCP coordinator Advocate Ruhul Amin's phone was called several times to inquire about the matter, but he did not answer.
Advertisement In this regard, Inspector (Investigation) of Naria Police Station Sukanta Dutta said that police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. He also said that the situation is normal at present.
