Mobile Court Fines 4 Traders Tk 20,000 in Chandina

The Chandina upazila administration conducted a sudden drive at the Chandina market to control the prices of essential agricultural products and restore discipline in market management. During the operation on Sunday evening, four traders were fined a total of Tk 20,000 under Section 19(e) of the Agricultural Marketing Act, 2018. The mobile court was led by Chandina Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Faisal Al Noor. The traders were found guilty of failing to display price lists, selling products at higher than fixed rates, and violating agricultural marketing regulations.The fined individuals are Md. Iqbal Hossain, son of Abdul Awal from Maharong; Ganesh Sen, son of the late Kamal Sen from Jafrabad; Md. Swapan, son of Sundar Ali from Jafrabad; and Md. Mozammel Haque, son of Kenu Mia from Maharong. According to upazila administration sources, the drive was initiated following allegations that some unscrupulous traders were causing distress to common buyers by creating artificial shortages or selling goods at inflated prices. During the operation, officials inspected various shops, verified price lists, and examined purchase-sale documents. The traders were cautioned about the Agricultural Marketing Act and warned of stricter penalties for future violations.Assistant Commissioner (Land) Faisal Al Noor stated that such mobile court operations would be conducted regularly to protect public interest and maintain market transparency. Local buyers welcomed the administration's initiative, noting that regular monitoring could significantly curb unreasonable price hikes. The upazila administration further added that these drives would continue in the future to ensure consumer rights and market discipline.
